My feet are on the concrete, my head is in the desert.
I am obsessed right now with desert landscapes as the subject matter of my artwork. As an inhabitant of one of the biggest cities in the world (NYC), that may seem strange. But apparently it’s all about balance.

I have lived in Brooklyn for two years. During that time I have published 3 coloring books consisting of a total of 90 drawings celebrating the natural world right at my fingertips.

Making these drawings and these books calmed through what I hope was the worst of the pandemic. (Thing are getting better, right?) They helped lots of folks find peace and comfort by coloring them too.

I wrote an artists statement recently about my collaged desert landscapes:
Shape, color and texture define landscapes in place and time. My current body of work explores desert landscapes with shapes created by randomly ripping up a collection of original artwork created over a period of 40 years. The original works on paper include woodcuts, silkscreens, drawings and acrylic on paper. Collage turns these random pieces of art into a puzzle to be reconstructed as both a diary and revealing a place in time. I crave those expansive vistas, which deserts frequently provide, that make me realize how insignificant I am (we are). The icing on this cake is the desert night sky revealing billions of stars.

Have you looked up at the night sky in the desert….or another location far away from light pollution? It’s a pretty humbling experience. I hope you can experience the disorientation of billions of stars.

Thank you for your interest in my work. My coloring books are available on Amazon and you can see more of my fine art at KristinReiberHarris.com, prices on request. Add art to your life.
